Modern Art: Neitzsche
I read your article and I must say that I don't entirely agree. I think a lot of art and its value has to do with the feeling it generates. I, personally, love a lot of modern art, from Roland Topor to Joan Mirò to René Magritte to Arnulf Rainer to tons of others. I am definitely not an art critic, but I believe in the power of art. In a way I believe in it so much that I am tempted to agree with Nietzsche's view that art is the only thing that saves us from this life [an obviously simplified statement]. Art is VERY subjective, and dismissing the majority of modern art as not being art is, I think, slightly harsh. It's different, it's fresh, sometimes it's confusing, but a lot of the time huge effort, thought and talent is involved in it, and you don't seem to recognize that? Perhaps you do, but that's what I understood from your article. It's well written though, and definitely thought-provoking, so I enjoyed the read.
Anyway, I would love to get involved! Hah, I hope this disagreement isn't a problem, but I doubt it is. As far as writing something for it, I'm definitely interested, and could I write just anything I wanted as long as it's interesting and 'intellectual'? I am definitely not afraid of sounding pretentious, I think pretentiousness is not a bad thing, as so many people seem to think. Please do e-mail me some ideas!
Cannot wait to hear from you. x
